If you were ever nervous about placing an elderly family member into assisted living for their safety, you may want to avoid the latest film from Polish director Bartosz M. Kowalski. Night Silence, which he co-wrote with Pawel Maslona and Mirella Zaradkiewicz, has just released its first trailer, and it looks like a whole host of nightmares come to life at once.
According to the filmโs logline, Night Silence follows โLucjan, a retired actor, [who] is placed in a nursing home in the middle of the countryside by his son. Nothing definitive, just for a few months while the house is being renovated. Reluctant at first, he is won over by the hospitality of the staff and residents. Soon, however, a wave of murders terrorizes the place. Tormented by terrifying nightmares, Lucjan must face a grotesque threat if he wants to get out of there alive.โ
Night Silence stars Zdzislaw Wardejn, Wlodzimierz Press, and the late Maciej Damiฤcki, who passed away before the film could have its premiere. โMaciej played a dying actor, and unfortunately, this story turned out to be true,โ Kowalski said to Variety in an October interview. โIt was emotional for all of usโฆI quickly understood he had to play the main character. It was love at first sight. On set, I worried the subject we were tackling might be difficult for him and for most of our actors, who were over 80. But Maciej always joked a lot, sang and even danced between takes. He didnโt get to see it, which is very painful for me.โ
Distribution deals have been secured for several South Asian countries and Spain through sales agent Latido Films, after having recently screened at the Sitges Film Festival.
Night Silence has not yet set a US release date, but you can watch the trailer below:
