The mall might be the symbol of great '80s consumerism but anyone who's seen Dawn of the Dead will be fully aware of just how terrifying shopping centers can be. Additionally so if you're stuck in one overnight, which is exactly what's happening in Night at the Mall, the new indie horror game from developer Easewwin and publisher GameEon Studios.

Set within a sprawling, decommissioned 1980s-era shopping center, the first-person, narrative-driven psychological horror game places players in the role of a night-shift security guard. The primary objective is to navigate the facility to restore power and locate an exit while managing the psychological toll of an environment that exhibits shifting layouts and unsettling phenomena.

To survive their night in the decrepit mall, players need to locate tools, hidden keys, codes and lore, pick up, rotate, and inspect 3D objects, and utilize a functioning Security Camera System to scout ahead. Because if you don't, those creepy ass mannequins are gonna get you. And yes, they change positions when your back is turned or when you look away.

Night at the Mall looks to be taking inspiration from the creepypasta subgenre of ‘weird instructions', which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, and sits nicely within the current liminal horror trend that also includes A24's Backrooms and NEON's Exit 8.

Night at the Mall is planned for PC release this August, and can be added to your Steam wishlist right here. While you're over there, why not add the OG Resident Evil trilogy to your list, too?
