Will Someone Please Put Nicole Kidman In A Horror Movie

The esteemed actress has not done โ€œhardcoreโ€ horror yet, and itโ€™s time to amend that.
The Northman (Nicole Kidman)

Nicole Kidman is arguably one of the most accomplished actresses working in Hollywood today. Her career spans more than four decades, including some of the biggest movies of all time like Aquaman, hit TV shows such as Big Little Lies, and even some memorable ads for AMC Theatres. Sheโ€™s done it all. Well, almost anyhow. It turns out that the Oscar-winning actress still has one thing she wants to do; classic, hardcore horror.

Kidman has certainly been involved in her fair share of genre films over the years including The Others, Stoker, The Invasion, Practical Magic, Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Northman. Be that as it may, she still has an itch that needs to be scratched in the realm of horror, as the Oscar-winner wants to do something more โ€œhardcore.โ€ Kidman was recently profiled by L'Officiel and expressed her desire to explore the horror genre even further. Hereโ€™s what she had to say about it:

โ€œIโ€™ve not done classic horror yet. Hardcore horror. Iโ€™m putting it out there, because I watch hardcore horror. Iโ€™m a fan of Ti West!โ€

The Others (Nicole Kidman)

Readers will surely point out that Kidman has horror bonafides. The Others is unquestionably horror of the supernatural variety, while some of her other aforementioned works are at least horror-adjacent. Even so, itโ€™s not hard to see what Kidman is saying. She clearly has a desire to star in something that is more straight-up horror. Blood and guts type of stuff. She mentions Ti West, and itโ€™s not at all hard to envision her in the world of MaXXXine, for example. Put plainly, it seems like it should be a no-brainer for someone, somewhere to get Kidman in a horror movie befitting her talents.

โ€œIโ€™d really wanted to work with him in horror,โ€ Kidman also said of being approached by James Wan. Ultimately, that ended up being for Aquaman, which was a massive $1 billion hit, so itโ€™s hard to say it didnโ€™t work out. Wan is a master of horror though, having helmed the likes of Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring. Itโ€™s easy to see why Kidman might have thought that was on the table. Who knows? Maybe now that Wan is getting back into the realm of horror, including his upcoming Creature from the Black Lagoon remake, he can give her a call.

Kidman has been nominated for five Oscars, winning Best Actress for her work in The Hours. Her performance in The Others helped elevate that to something other than a ghost story trying to capitalize on the success of The Sixth Sense. Sheโ€™s got serious range and, more importantly, has a real desire to do horror. Kidman is looking down on the genre as something lesser. Hollywood needs to make this happen. Sheโ€™s put it out there, now someone needs to wise up and listen.
