Oscar-winner Mikey Madison is reportedly following up her acclaimed turn in Sean Baker's Anora by jumping back into the horror genre.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals today that Madison is in talks to star in A24's The Masque of the Red Death, replacing previously attached star Sydney Sweeney in the Edgar Allan Poe adaptation.
From director Charlie Polinger, The Masque of the Red Death is reportedly described as a “quintessential A24 movie, one that likely will include eye-brow raising, meme-able scenes that should resonate among the TikTok class.”
Per THR, Madison would play twin sisters in a story that sees “a mad prince take in the noble class into his castle while a plague devastates the peasantry. The story sees a long-lost twin, hidden among the lower class, enter the castle and into a decadent world of orgies, opium, power schemes, revenge and decapitations.” Sign us up!
According to THR's sources, Red Death is due to shoot at the end of this year or early next year.
Should Madison board the project, it'll be her first horror picture since she played Amber Freeman in Radio Silence's Scream sequel.
First published in 1842, Poe's short The Masque of the Red Death has been adapted a number of times before, notably Roger Corman's 1964 version starring Vincent Price, and Larry Band's 1989 remake.
Look out for updates on A24's version as we get them.
