Scream queen Maika Monroe (It Follows, Longlegs, the upcoming They Follow) is the star of a brand newย Resident Evil Requiem live-action trailer, one that you might have already seen if you're in New York or Los Angeles and have noticed mysterious QR codes floating around both cities. For those of you who haven't seen it though; never fear. We've got it right here for you to take a peek at.

Launching on February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, Resident Evil Requiem is set 30 years after a missile strike destroys Raccoon City, and mainly follows investigate reporter Grace Ashcroft, daughter ofย Resident Evil Outbreakโ€˜s Alyssa Ashcroft. Series star Leon S. Kennedy is also confirmed to return as a playable character as part of the story's split narrative.

The ninth title in the mainline Resident Evil series is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who also helmed the utterly terrifying Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, hinting atย Requiemโ€˜s return to pure survival horror after the more fantasy-focused Resident Evil Village. And, in a first for the series, in Resident Evil Requiem, players are able to shift, at any point in the game, between first and third-person perspective, so you can decide how close you want to come to the game's terrifying new stalker enemy.

In today's new trailer, helmed by music video director Rich Lee, Monroe doesn't appear as any canon character in the Resident Evil games, instead telling a short, brand new story in which she portrays a mother living in ground zero, Raccoon City, in the 1990s when the outbreak began.

Per an exclusive new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Monroe reveals more of what drew her to the short and its nostalgic inspirations:

“What I loved about it was it had a lot of heart […] It's really heartbreaking, the story that you're watching unfold. I just thought it was a really interesting and a new way to portray this video game coming out.

“It felt very nostalgic […] The big point was going back to the '90s, the original location of Raccoon City. And then of course, you get to the end and they're showing visuals of the zombies, that I would then get to be a zombie. It was really quite exciting.”

Of course, this new mini movie isn't the only live-actionย Resident Evil goodness fans can feast on this year – there's also Zach Cregger's upcomingย Resident Evil, set to hit theaters on September 18 via Sony.
