Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Bryan Fuller's Dust Bunny) is set to star as a stranded astronaut in Ami, an upcoming sci-fi survival thriller feature debut from director Fernando Szurman.

Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) also leads the cast as an A.I. companion aiding in the astronaut's escape after crash-landing on an uncharted planet:

โ€œAs he navigates an alien landscape and a battle for survival, he is forced to confront the fragility of memory, the isolation of space, and the resilience of the human spirit,โ€

John Wesley Norton and Ezequiel Martinez Jr. wrote the script, with Fishcorb, Capstone Studios, and Conch Republic Films producing, and Andres Sanchez executive-producing. Ami is currently in production in Spain.

In a statement, Szurman, whose previous work includes as first AD on movies including Borrego and The Mortimers, had this to say of the new genre title:

โ€œWhat excited me about Ami was the opportunity to tell a profoundly human story through a genre that allows for both scope and intimacy […] I want to push the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling while grounding it in emotional truth. Weโ€™re not just making a survival film; weโ€™re inviting audiences into a deeply personal space odyssey.โ€

Look out for more on Ami as we get it!
