After featuring as one of the many ensemble stars in Sinners, Li Jun Li has found her next project. Deadline reports that the Spider-Noir star is set to lead Victoria, a new thriller series coming to Hulu from creator Christy Hall.
Hall serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series, which will also be produced by Geeta Vasant Patel (who also directs the pilot), Lilly Burns, Elise Henderson, and Tony Hernandez. Per Deadline, the series’ description is as follows:
Set in the cutthroat world of San Francisco’s elite, Victoria follows a brilliant con artist who finds herself in a dark web of power, luxury and the crosshairs of a seductive killer who knows her secrets.
Li is set to play Maxine Tao, a “sophisticated and cunning con woman who is thrust into the seductive, high-stakes world of venture capital after a chance encounter grants her the grift of a lifetime.” A vague description, but if there’s a killer on the loose, she certainly won’t have it easy.
Li Jun Li is perhaps best known for playing supermarket owner Grace Chow in Ryan Coogler’s Oscar-winning film Sinners, where she starred alongside Malaysian-Filipino actor Yao as her husband Bo. She is also set to star in the third season of The Last of Us, which recently wrapped filming.
Hall previously served as co-creator and writer on Netflix’s tragically cancelled series I Am Not Okay WIth This, starring It alum Sophia Lillis. She also made her directorial debut with the recent drama Daddio, as well as writing the film adaptation of It Ends With Us and the upcoming adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ Variation.
