Monster High’s adding some whimsy to their Skullector collection this month. They’ve just announced the latest in the high fashion doll series, based on one of the iconic circus monsters from Killer Klowns From Outer Space, complete with eye-searingly bright outfit and cotton candy cocoon!
The new doll is modeled after Shorty, the beloved pipsqueak clown, and comes complete with his iconic outfit, including yellow vinyl top and shorts with psychedelic orange sleeve detailing, as well as his memorable neon green hair. Her collar mirrors Shorty’s classic clown look, but replaces some of the details with Monster High skulls, which match perfectly with her popcorn kernel belt and scrunchie.
She also comes with several accessories featuring references to the film, including earrings that feature the film’s cotton candy blaster guns, red boxing gloves, high heels modeled after the film’s balloon animals, and a miniature version of the cotton candy cocoons that the Killer Klowns use to enslave the people of Crescent Cove.
While Shorty is arguably the most colorful doll Mattel has put out as a part of their Skullector line, it certainly isn’t the first. The collection features numerous haute couture homages to classic horror films, including The Lost Boys, The Shining, Edward Scissorhands, and more. Most recently, they honored characters from Beetlejuice and Masters of the Universe with their very own dolls, so who’s to say what the future holds for the Monster High line?
Killer Klowns from Outer Space was originally released in 1988, and quickly went on to gain cult status among horror fans the world over. Monster High certainly isn’t the first brand to make merchandise based on the horror comedy — there’s even a pinball table based on the film — but with a remake produced by Ryan Gosling in the works, this may not be the last time we see Shorty and co. grace department store shelves.
