If you didn't catch it at the Super Bowl Halftime Show yesterday, Universal bought big dinos to the Big Game Spot with a new look at Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World Rebirth, which stomps into theaters on July 2.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend, the latest in the blockbuster franchise was written by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp (recently seen penning Steven Soderbergh's Presence).
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planetโs ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zoraโs operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.
Ali is Duncan Kincaid, Zoraโs most trusted team member; Bailey plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Friend (Homeland, Obi-Wan Kenobi) appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer, Murder on the Orient Express) plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.
Also starring in Jurassic World Rebirth are Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs. Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF) and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).
OG Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg returns as executive producer, along with Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing.
Yesterday's new trailer isn't a whole lot different from the one we already saw, but there are a couple of glimpses of new dinos, plus some more scenes of Johansson in action. Clearly, the team behind Rebirth are trying to keep us much of the dinosaur carnage secret until the movie hits screens.
