We are just a few months away from the return of the Jurassic World franchise (or Park, depending on your age, most likely). In Jurassic World Rebirth, itโs all about โnewโ as weโve got a new director in the form of Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One), a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and a new setting with new dinosaurs. Itโs also going to be violent and action-packed, so it seems.

Itโs been revealed that Jurassic World Rebirth has received a PG-13 rating. Weโd heard previously that the movie is pretty violent. There were even unfounded rumors of an R rating afoot. That said, Universal was probably never going to let a $6 billion franchise go R rated and alienate younger viewers entirely. Still, it sounds like Edwards didnโt pull any punches. Per the MPAA, the film earned a PG-13 rating โfor intense sequences of violence/action, bloody images, some suggestive references, language and a drug reference.โ How about that! A single drug reference.
Thereโs still a surprising amount of mystery surrounding the seventh entry in the long-running franchise, but the first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth revealed that the movie will take place on the original Jurassic Park research facility. There will also be at least one crazy mutant dinosaur and two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali. On paper, there is a lot to look forward to here, even for those who didnโt love 2022โs Dominion. Fear not, it appears there are no giant locusts this time around. As for what we can expect? The rather lengthy synopsis reads as follows:
โFive years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planetโs ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Academy Award nominee Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure the genetic material. When Zoraโs operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.โ
The cast also includes Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain and Ed Skrein. Rather crucially, David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park, returned to pen the screenplay for this latest installment.
