You can't keep a good dino down, evidently, as Gareth Edwards' Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2, 2025, and Entertainment Weekly has debuted some brand new images today.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend, Jurassic World Rebirth is set to kickstart a brand new chapter in the Jurassic Park franchise, as the title suggests. That means that itโs unlikely weโll see the return of the original Jurassic team, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, or the Jurassic World pairing of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp returns for the script, which follows:
Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planetโs ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.
Also starring in Jurassic World Rebirth are Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs. Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF) and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).
In today's new interview with EW, Edwards expands a little on what this brand new chapter means for him:
โI can't speak for Universal, but it did feel like a new trilogy, in a way […] I'm not sure what their plans are, but it felt like the beginning of a brand-new chapter in this franchise. To me, it's a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of Jaws. Itโs like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child. It's essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.โ
The DNA of another Spielberg classic is also very much within Jurassic World Rebirth, with Edwards comparing Johansson, Ali and Bailey (the new faces of Jurassic Park) to Brody, Hooper, and Quint from the 1975 classic Jaws
โItโs that kind of triangle between three different overlapping characters […] There's a lot of fun between the three of them that really popped out to me. It's less of a love triangle and much more of a competitive โwho's the alpha in the group?โ kind of way.โ
Across six films, the Jurassic series has pulled in more than $6 billion at the global box office. 2015โs Jurassic World remains one of the highest-grossing films in history, with 2022โs Jurassic World Dominion ranking as one of the only movies of the pandemic to crack the $1 billion mark globally.
