Beware Boiúna, the latest fromWrong Turn‘s Mike P. Nelson, slithers into theaters on October 2, with Lionsgate unveiling the first trailer and new key art for the serpentine creature feature today:
Directed by Nelson from a script by Alan McElroy, Beware Boiúna stars Jessica Rothe, Kiana Madeira, Jackson Bews, Juan Pablo Shuk, and Logan Marshall-Green. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
Deep in the Amazon, a medical mission spirals into a fight for survival when Boiúna, a colossal ancient predator, awakens to reclaim her domain. In the jungle where nature holds absolute power, she decides who lives and who dies.
Originally titled Titan, the new film is Nelson’s latest foray into horror after directing last year’s remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night, and the “No Wake” and “Ambrosia” segments of V/H/S/85. Its story is based on the Brazilian legend of the Boiúna, a giant black snake who lives in the rivers of the Amazon and can take on any shape to protect its territory, including objects, humans, and other animals.
Beware Boiúna marks the latest in the recent resurgence of animal attack horrors, with Primate, Hungry, Infested and Dangerous Animals to name but a few. There's also the Melissa Barrera-starring orca thriller Black Tides, Mia Goth's Hey Bear, and the upcoming Spider Island to look forward to as well, and that's before we even dip our toes into the recent renaissance of shark attack thrillers.
Beware Boiúna hits theaters on October 2.
