The folks at Grindhouse Releasing are bringing us what is being billed as the Blu-ray event of the year. The specialty label is bringing the rediscovered and long-forgotten 1970s shocker Hollywood 90028 to Blu-ray. Writer/director Christina Hornisher’s film has been given the red carpet treatment with a full 4K restoration. Following its recent festival run, it’s coming home.
The film stars Christopher Augustine as Mark, an alienated porno film cameraman turned serial murderer, with Jeannette Dilger, Gayle Davis and Dick Glass rounding out the cast. The film has also gone by other names, including The Hollywood Hillside Strangler and Twister Throats. Though once relegated to obscurity, it has now found new life and garnered rave reviews from modern horror contemporaries. “Hollywood 90028 has been blessed with much-deserved new life…a breathtaking 4K restoration from Grindhouse Releasing,” Fango’s own Alexandra Heller-Nicholas said.
The new Blu-ray is a deluxe 3-disc set that even includes the CD soundtrack release of the original score by composer Basil Poledouris, sourced directly from the original master tapes. The release also includes three short films directed by Hornisher, uncensored scenes from the X-rated director’s cut of the film and more. Grindhouse Releasing is known for going all-out for these releases. They are the same people who brought William Shatner’s Impulse home last year, after all. The limited edition ‘Grindhouse’ slipcover features the tabloid style one sheet poster art used when the film played 42nd Street as The Hollywood Hillside Strangler. This edition with the vintage exploitation cover is limited to 2000 units and is available only from the Grindhouse Releasing webstore. The release retails for $49.95 but is currently available to pre-order for $34.95.
