Heretic

If you missed your chance to watch Hugh Grant terrify a couple of Mormon missionaries in theaters, nowโ€™s the opportunity to catch up โ€” and from the comfort of your own home. Heretic, the religious horror film from Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, has arrived on digital, just in time to gather up your family at Christmas time and make them question everything theyโ€™ve ever believed. (Well, if youโ€™re okay starting a couple fights in the process.)

The film, also starring Yellowjacketsโ€™ Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, is available on all digital platforms now, retailing for $19.99 USD to rent and $24.99 to purchase. This comes after a knockout run in theaters, which saw our own Jordan Hoffman describe the film as โ€œsomething of a miracleโ€

Heretic, written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (Nightlight, Haunt, 65 and co-authors of A Quiet Place), is first and foremost a terrific addition to the โ€œdonโ€™t go in there, you idiot!โ€ canon, but itโ€™s also a sharp character drama about three people talking about big, bold, theological concepts. Other than looming dread, the dialogue-heavy first hour of the picture has hardly any concrete horror elements at all, until you consider that so much about religion concerns after-death experiences and other touchstones of the supernatural.

But if youโ€™re more into the physical media side of things, never fear: A24 has also revealed the pre-order for a special 4K Blu-ray release, which includes a commentary from directors and co-writers Beck and Woods, a making-of featurette, and six collectible postcards featuring on-set photography from Kimberly French, as well as exclusive cover art available only through the A24 store. The disc is expected to ship sometime in January.

Heretic is available to rent or buy now on digital, with the 4K Blu-ray, as well as the filmโ€™s soundtrack and other related goodies, available to preorder on A24โ€™s website.
