Following today's first look at the Gothic sci-fi horror, director Guillermo del Toro has officially confirmed that Frankenstein will release in theaters after all.

Previously, Frankenstein had looked like it was going to go straight to Netflix, which fans were understandably concerned and upset about. Never fear, as we will be getting our big screen creature after all!

Starring Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Christoph Walz and Jacob Elordi as the monster, Frankenstein is based on Mary Shelley's seminal 1818 novel that sees the titular doctor creating a monster as he tries to cheat death in the lab.

Confirming the news via his official Bluesky account, del Toro said in no uncertain terms that “Frankenstein will have a theatrical run”, although further details are still pending.

Given that GDT's Frankenstein has been a labor of love in development since 2007, it only feels fair that the film should get a fair shot at a theatrical release. The man is an Oscar-winner, after all.

With Frankenstein, Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man, James Wan's upcoming Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! it's safe to say we're in a Universal Monsters renaissance.

Frankenstein has no set release date for either Netflix or theaters, but we'll be sure to update you when it does.
