Coming to computer screens on December 16 is Ghosts of Yuletide: Reclaiming a Chilling Tradition, a virtual storytelling event set to celebrate the rich tradition of Christmas ghost tales, whilst also celebrating the often-overlooked contributions of Black women to horror literature.
Organized by Mourning Manor Media, in collaboration with Black Women in Horror, Ghosts of Yuletide: Reclaiming a Chilling Tradition will feature will feature readings from an extraordinary lineup of acclaimed Black women authors, including Linda D. Addison, the first African-American recipient of the HWA Bram Stoker Award; award-winning screenwriter and author, Melody Cooper; Rhonda Jackson Joseph, author of Hell Hath No Sorrow Like a Woman Haunted; Golden Stake Award-winning L. Marie Wood; Crystal Connor, founder of the Cabin in the Woods Film Festival; and Kenya Moss-Dyme, editor of Black Women in Horror Magazine for 2022 and the co-organizer of Black Women in Horror.Org
Rounding out the event are Sumiko Saulson, an award-winning, Bram Stoker-nominated author, founder of Black Women in Horror. Org, editor of Black Women Magic and a horror and Afrosurrealist with works including The Rat King and Somnalia, and event host Mo Moshaty, an internationally celebrated horror writer, lecturer, filmmaker, and producer of 13 Minutes of Horror: Sci-Fi Horror & 13 Minutes of Horror: Folklore.

Black women have historically been underrepresented in this tradition, but our role in reclaiming and reshaping it is significant. Through storytelling, literature, and performance, Black women are exploring our own cultural perspectives within this framework. our storytelling traditions, rich with supernatural and moral tales, provide a unique lens through which to reinterpret the Christmas ghost story.
