After landing a spot on this year’s preliminary ballot for the Bram Stoker Awards, Comixology’s acclaimed comic series GhostBox is getting a special makeover. A new black and white edition of the popular series is being released for the first time, and FANGORIA is excited to offer an exclusive preview of the new edition.
The new version of GhostBox will be available exclusively from Comixology Originals, released as a five-issue monthly series featuring the original story by writer Mike Carey and artist Pablo Raimondi reimagined with black, white, and grey artwork. The first issue hits stands this month, featuring a whopping forty-two pages and special bonus material, including Carey’s original first issue manuscript.
The series’ synopsis is as follows:
When sisters Chloe and Jan Peace come into an unexpected inheritance, it couldn’t come at a better time. Chloe, desperate for cash, advertises her late uncle’s possessions online — in particular, a strange ornately carved wooden box — and gets a very motivated buyer. But when the deal goes south, Chloe is arrested for murder and Jan disappears, unraveling a secret that blends fantasy and horror in a thrilling supernatural adventure.
“Releasing a B&W edition is a first for Comixology Originals, and we think it’s going to be an exciting experience for both fans of the color edition and those who’ve yet to read GhostBox,” said Comixology’s Jeff DiBartolomeo. “When I first got a glimpse of Pablo's art for GhostBox, it was early in production, and I already knew it was going to be spectacular. Then, I saw José's gorgeous coloring and was blown away. Now, it’s exhilarating to go back to that original art stage and release this series as I first saw it in B&W. It's stunning.”
This is not the first time a rerelease of GhostBox has been planned. While most Comixology titles are normally only available digitally, the first volume of the series was recently published in paperback by Mad Cave Studios, featuring its original coloring from José Villarrubia and an exclusive ten page epilogue only available in print.
“The color edition, brought to life by the brilliant José Villarrubia, helped define the look and mood for the series,” Raimondi says. “This black-and-white edition presents another way to experience the art, giving readers a chance to really get closer to the raw linework. Huge thanks to Comixology Originals for bringing both the original version and now this new black-and-white edition to life!’
The first issue of GhostBox: Black and White hits shelves on February 17. Check out an exclusive sneak peek below:
