What would have been George A. Romeroโ€™s 86th birthday is coming up this week, and to celebrate, FANGORIA has partnered with Shudder to host a special event honoring one of the grandfathers of modern horror. A Very Scary Unbirthday to George A. Romero brings the horror community together to celebrate not only the Night of the Living Dead directorโ€™s towering legacy, but also the living and evolving community he helped to create, that remains as vibrant as ever.ย

The event is headlined by an Instagram Live weโ€™ll be hosting on February 4 at 9:45PM ET, featuring a conversation with Romeroโ€™s daughter and Queens of the Dead director Tina Romero, celebrating her fatherโ€™s legacy and everything thatโ€™s come from it. Sheโ€™ll be joined by Katy Oโ€™Brien, who she directed in Queens of the Dead, as well as Day of the Dead star Lori Cardille. And who knows, maybe weโ€™ve got some other surprises up our sleeveโ€ฆ

But if you canโ€™t join the live, donโ€™t worry, the celebrations donโ€™t end there. Thereโ€™s also special merchandise thatโ€™ll be hitting online shelves, including the soundtrack for Queens of the Dead thatโ€™ll be available across all digital music platforms, and special merch from FreshKillz, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Venus Pellagatti Xtravaganza House, a historical landmark and community action program dedicated to providing support and relief for the LGBTQ community in Jersey City.ย

To top everything off, Shudder TV will be programming a block of Romeroโ€™s films beginning at 7PM ET, including his underrated gem The Amusement Park, as well as Day of the Dead and Tina Romeroโ€™s Queens of the Dead to highlight the familyโ€™s genre-defining work, seeing horror through a bold, queer, punk lens.ย

You can check out some of the titles thatโ€™ll be streaming in Romero Movie Block on Shudder now, and make sure you follow us on Instagram so you donโ€™t miss out on the birthday party of the century!
