Happy Friday the 13th! It’s the scariest day of the year (aside from Halloween, of course), and to celebrate, Paramount Scares has whipped up the perfect celebration of the franchise that shares a name with the unlucky holiday. Camp Crystal Legacy is a new series of videos exploring the impact of Friday the 13th, its history, and how the franchise continues to evolve and expand in the modern age.
With the first two episodes available now on YouTube, Camp Crystal Legacy explores Friday the 13th through the lens of those who made it, and the audiences that can’t get enough of it. Each installment, directed and produced by Michael Varrati, features in-depth interviews with franchise alumni, gathered at last year’s Crystal Lake Nightmares convention celebrating the franchise’s 45th anniversary.
Each episode, which also feature interviews from famous friends and fans of the series, focuses on a different aspect of the franchise’s enduring legacy — beginning with the “Cult of Crystal Lake,” a look at the franchise’s beginnings as a cult slasher and how it grew into a globally beloved series, spanning films, video games, and more. The second episode focuses on some of the actors who’ve gotten to put on that infamous hockey mask to play Jason Voorhees, including Kane Hodder, Ari Lehman, and Ken Kirzinger.
If you still want more from the franchise though, you’re in luck! FANGORIA is partnering with Regal Cinemas for a new screening series that lets you watch the films on their unlucky namesake days. The series begins today with the original Friday the 13th, and continues on March 13 with Friday the 13th Part 3 3-D and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, and wraps up on November 13 with Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.
