QUEENS OF THE DEAD: First Look At Tina Romero’s Queer Zombie Comedy

Katy O'Brian and Margaret Cho star in the gory and glamorous feature from George A. Romero's daughter.

It's zombies vs. drag queens in the upcoming horror-comedy Queens of the Dead from director Tina Romero, with a first look image today previewing star Katy O'Brian (Love Lies Bleeding) in action.

The queer zomcom from Romero (daughter of horror and cinema legend George A. Romero)  also stars Margaret Cho (Fire Island), Brigette Lundy-Paine (I Saw The TV Glow) and Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story).

Also starring are Nina West (Rupaulโ€™s Drag Race), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Becca Blackwell (Bros), Shaunette Renรฉe Wilson (Black Panther), Dominique Jackson (Pose), Riki Lindhome (Knives Out), and Eve Lindley (Bros).

Co-written by Romero and Erin Judge, Queens of the Dead:

โ€ฆ pays tribute to the zombies from the elder Romeroโ€™s classic zombie films with a fresh, contemporary, and queer twist, promising to offer a genre-smashing, glam-gore thrill ride through the zombie apocalypse.

The story follows an eclectic group of drag queens, club kids, and frenemies who must put aside their personal dramas and use their unique skills to combat the brain-thirsty undead when a zombie apocalypse breaks out during their drag show in Brooklyn.

Deadline, who shared the image earlier today, also report today that Paris-based production house Charades Films have acquired international sales rights to Queens of the Dead ahead of the American Film Market.

Yohann Comte, chairman of Charades, had this to say of the exciting acquisition:

โ€œThis project fits perfectly into the DNA of Charades: a talented director who enjoys subverting genre conventions and revealing a universe that is uniquely her own, featuring a five-star cast,โ€

Romero adds:

โ€œWith Charades joining us, weโ€™re excited to carry on that tradition, bringing a blend of outrageous humor and glamor to the undead in a way thatโ€™s never been done before,โ€

Queens of the Dead has no set release date at the time of writing, but we'll bring you any updates as we get them!
