First dates suck โ theyโre awkward, usually expensive, and sometimes lead nowhere. But what would happen if, on top of all that pressure, you also have someone stalking you and blackmailing you into murdering your date? Thatโs what Meghann Fahy has to deal with in Drop, the new thriller from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon, which has just released a new featurette ahead of its April 11 release.
The featurette shows off both Fahy and Landon, along with co-star Brandon Sklenar, talking about the filmโs conceit, as well as how they made it work as actors and filmmakers. Landon explains how both his stars made โbig swingsโ with the material to make it work, especially for a film locked into one location.
Drop also stars Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffrey Self, Ed Weeks, and Travis Nelson. The full synopsis for the film is as follows.
Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy, breakout star of White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (It Ends with Usโ Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
She is instructed to tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violetโs young son and babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentorโs final directive? Kill Henry.
Written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, the Blumhouse film is Landonโs first directorial effort We Have a Ghost, starring Stranger Thingsโ David Harbour and Anthony Mackie. Itโs also his first film to hit theaters after he exited the troubled Scream 7, which he was initially set to direct. The film is produced by Jason Blum, Brad and Cameron Fuller, and Michael Bay, of all people. (We donโt know what heโs doing here, but weโre excited nonetheless.)
Drop hits theaters on April 11. Check out the new featurette below:
