Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, A Quiet Place Part II, A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to star in The Monster, an upcoming horror thriller from Saw producer Mark Burg and Saw II, III and IV director Darren Lynn Bousman.

Reporting the news exclusively today, Deadline let us know that the screenplay was developed by Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer (who both wrote Steven Soderberghโ€™s Unsane)

In The Monster:

The Monster follows two millennials who make quick money by leasing incredible New York City apartments they donโ€™t own to people who donโ€™t know they are being scammed. The con works brilliantly until they run into an apartment owner with a dark secret who flips the game on them.

Here's what Burg has to say of The Monster:

โ€œDarren sent me a script with incredible twists and turns and the opportunity to work with him and the brilliant Djimon Hounsou […] This movie will be amazing and scare the hell out of audiences worldwide.โ€

Producing and developing alongside Burg are Lee Nelson and David Tish of Envision Media Arts (The Ice Road), who added:

โ€œWe love finding new ways into horror and when we read The Monster we knew it was special. With Djimon and the minds behind one of horrorโ€™s biggest franchises, genre fans are in for something fresh and scary.โ€

Principle photography on The Monster is due to start next month in Connecticut.

Sounds like The Monster has a dream team on its hands with the Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated Hounsou, plus the creatives who bought some of the best Saws to life. We'll bring you all the updates on The Monster as we get them.
