When it seems like everythingโs been taken over by vampires lately, Level 33 Entertainment is out to prove that the zombie movie isnโt (un)dead yet. Theyโve just released the first trailer for Didnโt Die, a new horror comedy set in the middle of an apocalypse with the most unlikely of protagonists: a podcaster.ย
Didnโt Die stars Kiran Deol as a podcast host struggling to keep her show going in the midst of an ongoing zombie apocalypse. Directed by Meera Menon, the film also stars George Basil, Samrat Chakrabarti, Katie McCuen, Vishal Vijayakumar, Ali Lopez-Sohaili and Kandis Erickson.
โIโm drawn to the question of what still makes life worth living when everything else has come undone,โ Menon said of the film. โBeing an indie filmmaker right now feels like podcasting in the middle of a zombie apocalypseโthis film is about the grit it takes to simply keep going.โ
Didnโt Die originally premiered as part of last yearโs Sundance Film Festival in their Midnights category. The film is produced by Erica Fishman, Joe Camerota, and cinematographer Paul Gleason, with a score from Samuel Jones.ย
โAs a performer, itโs such a privilege to get to play an arc โ especially one grounded in wry humor,โ Deol says. โShowcasing a South Asian family meant lots of dosas on set โ which is a delicious way to make something revolutionary. From the collaborative style of developing the story, to staying in a house with the actors in upstate New York, Meera created an experience that felt like family coming together.โ
“Didnโt Die is a witty and poignant take on the classic zombie film, crafted by a group of truly remarkable filmmakers,โ added Level 33โs Andreas Olavarria. โWe canโt wait to share this film with audiences across North America.โ
Didnโt Die hits theaters on March 6.
