Deadstream directors Joseph and Vanessa Winter are the latest to join in on the Internet horror boom with upcoming horror-thriller Future Me, an adaptation of one of Reddit's spookiest stories.

Based on Daria Vasilev's short originally published on the r/NoSleep sub, Future Me follows a man who receives a deeply unsettling email from his past self via the ‘FutureMe’ website, a message that draws him down a terrifying and increasingly surreal rabbit hole.

Per an official press release, Future Me is the first title of a multi-picture deal between L.A. and UAE-based production company Longevity Pictures, indie genre label Spooky Pictures and Abu Dhabi’s Image Nation Studios.

Producers include Majd Nassif (MERCY, Locked) for Longevity Pictures, alongside Steven Schneider (The Long Walk, Strange Darling, Late Night with the Devil) and Roy Lee (Weapons, Barbarian, It, the upcoming Silent Hill reboot) for Spooky Pictures. Image Nation Studios’ Ben Ross (Watcher, Late Night with the Devil) and Longevity Pictures’ Aysel Lyatifova (MERCY, Six Till Midnight) will executive produce.

In a statement, Nassif cites the aforementioned wave of Internet horror as a reason to get (even more) excited for Future Me:

“Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Studios have built an incredible track record for championing high-concept, creator-driven horror storytelling, so expanding our partnership felt like a natural next step […] After the success of ‘Backrooms,’ the potential of internet lore as fertile ground for adaptation has become undeniable. So we’re excited to be bringing ‘Future Me’ to life with a team which shares our passion for original and punchy genre projects.”

Released back in 2022, the Winters' feature debut Deadstream, which follows a disgraced content creator attempting to resurrect his career by live-streaming his night in a haunted house, was picked up by Shudder following its SXSW premiere and quickly became a fan and critic favorite. Their last horror project was the short “To Hell and Back” in 2022's V/H/S/99.

Future Me is the second recently announced project from the Winters, with the duo also working on another new spin on The Amityville Horror. Look out for more on that, and Future Me, as we get it.
