Weโ€™ve had plenty of Frankenstein-inspired tales hit theaters lately, and it looks like weโ€™re due for one more. Cartuna x DWECK just released the trailer for Dead Lover, a new and distinctly gross take on bringing someone back to life, told in the vein of films like Cemetery Man and Weird Science rather than Mary Shelleyโ€™s original tale.ย

Dead Lover,ย which features in the latest issue of FANGORIA magazine,ย is co-written and directed by Grace Glowicki, who also stars in the film. Her co-writer Ben Petrie also features in the film, which also stars Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow and is executive produced by Rhianon Jones, Tristan Scott-Behrends, Matthew Miller, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Olivia Nieuwland. The filmโ€™s synopsis is as follows:ย

A lonely Gravedigger reeks so strongly of corpses that she canโ€™t attract a lover. She concocts fragrant perfumes in her workshop, but nothing can save her romantic prospects from her ghastly odorโ€ฆ Until one day, when Gravedigger meets Lover, an aristocratic dandy in town for his sisterโ€™s funeral. Lover is different: numb to the pampered palette of the aristocracy, his loins are downright aroused by Gravediggerโ€™s morbid stank.ย

Before long, Gravedigger and Lover begin a rapturous love affair, become engaged, and dream of starting a family. But suddenly, Gravediggerโ€™s dreams are ripped away when Lover tragically drowns in a shipwreck โ€“ and all that is recovered is his severed finger, still wrapped in his engagement ring. Delirious with grief and enduring love, Gravedigger resolves to bring Lover back to life using only his ring finger.

Ahead of the filmโ€™s theatrical release in March, New York audiences will have an audience to get a sneak peek at the film with two special screenings on February 9, courtesy of Nitehawk Cinema โ€” one at 9:30 PM at their Williamsburg location, and one at 9:15PM at their Prospect Park location, which will be followed by a Q&A with Glowicki and Petrie. For tickets and more information on those screenings, you can check out Nitehawkโ€™s website.ย

Dead Lover hits theaters on March 20.
