Comic writer and author Cullen Bunn is at it again, and this time, we’ve got a special sneak peek for you. FANGORIA is excited to partner with Ignition Press to announce We Cannot Remain, a new horror comic series hitting shop shelves next year.
Arriving in January, We Cannot Remain is written by Bunn, with art by Marika Cresta and colors by Ronda Pattinson, all three of whom collaborated on the psychological horror series Deluge. The series’ synopsis is as follows:
When ruthless developers uproot an unhoused population, the displaced individuals head to an abandoned building for shelter. Little do they know, what is inside that building may be more terrifying than what they are running from on the outside.
The full history of the building resides within its walls, a history that includes cruelty and tragedy. Different ghosts linger on every floor, each driven by their own individual desires that tie them to this world. In turn, they will force those looking for safety to confront their own worst fears. Will there be redemption for any of these lost souls, or will there just end up being more ghosts to roam these cursed halls?
“We Cannot Remain is the most haunted of haunted house stories,” said Bunn. “It’s the story of a group of people who have seen real world pain and horror, but when they seek refuge in the Exeter Building, they are overwhelmed by the worst supernatural terror. It’s a story of human perseverance in the face of awfulness, before and after death. It’s part of a greater mythology cycle I’m really excited about.”
The first issue of We Cannot Remain features two open-order variant covers by Joëlle Jones and Cresta, as well as a 1-in-10 retailer incentive cover designed by Andrew K. Currey.
“With Deluge, Cullen and Marika created terror showing what happened when monsters came from the outside into a place that should otherwise been safe,” says series editor Jamie S. Rich, “but We Cannot Remain flips that on its head. In this case, the people are driven inside looking for safety, only to find the scary stuff waiting for them. The way they have designed this haunted office building, there is a fright on every floor.”
We Cannot Remain #1 hits shelves on January 20, 2027. Check out issue one’s covers below:
