Harkening back to the era in which its monster first hit the big screen, Skybound Entertainmentโ€™s Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! is getting a special rerelease. The comics publisher just announced that the limited four-issue series is being rereleased in a remastered black and white format, combining the story into a special two-part release hitting shelves in May.ย

Originally released in 2024, Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! is written by Dan Watters and Ram V, with art by Matthew Roberts. The series picks up years after the events of the original 1954 film with journalist Kate Marsden on the hunt for a serial killer in the Amazon, only to stumble across the Creature himself, who may well be just as big of a threat. The new black and white edition features completely remastered art, with special new, full-color covers from Roberts, Mark Chiarello, and Abigail Larson.ย

“After the massive success of our Dracula Black & White Special, weโ€™re thrilled to return to the Black Lagoon!โ€ said Skyboundโ€™s Alex Antone. โ€œDan Watters and Ram V delivered an incredible crime story that fans never saw coming, and Matthew Robertsโ€™ stunning art may look even better in black & white.โ€ย ย

Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! is one of numerous series to be developed by Skybound in partnership with Universal Studios, showcasing their classic Universal Monsters in a wholly new light. Other series include the previously mentioned Dracula by Janes Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds, as well as Michael Walshโ€™s Frankenstein, Faith Erin Hickโ€™s The Mummy, The Invisible Man, and an upcoming Phantom of the Opera series.ย

Creature From the Black Lagoon Lives! Black & White Special #1 hits shelves on May 27, retailing for $6.99 USD, with the second issue following on June 24.ย
