Alexandre Aja's Crawl 2, a sequel to the 2019 creature feature Crawl, is reportedly due to start shooting in Budapest, Hungary very soon.
Originally announced back in August 2024, Crawl 2 sees Aja return to direct and produce, with Craig Flores and horror master Sam Raimi returning once again to produce. Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension) are on script duties.
Crawl starred Kaya Scodelario (Skins, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) and Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile), as a daughter and father who, along with their dog, find themselves trapped in the crawl space of their home and preyed upon by alligators during a Category 5 hurricane in Florida. The film was a commercial and critical success, racking up $91 million at the global box office on a $13.5โ15 million production budget and nabbing a FANGORIA Chainsaw Award Nomination for Best Wide Release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crawl 2 will feature a new cast and a new location, in this case the more urban dangers of New York City. According to The Budapest Reporter, the story follows the chaos unleashed when animals from New Yorkโs Central Park Zoo escape during the storm, posing a new and unpredictable danger to survivors.
The Budapest Reporter also claim that additional filming support will come from City Media Park in Belgrade, Serbia.
No release date has yet been set for the toothy sequel.
