Plenty of us have described our exes as demons. (Don’t lie to me — we’ve all had them.) But cheating partners and oceans of red flags are nothing compared to dating an actual demon…right? Well, if you’ve ever been curious about it, author Clay McLeod Chapman’s latest novel, Devil Inside, explores just what happens when someone falls in love with a literal monster, and FANGORIA is excited to premiere both the novel’s cover and an exclusive excerpt ahead of its release on shelves next year.
Devil Inside is just the latest in a long line of books written by Chapman, whose work also includes titles like The Remaking, Whisper Down the Lane, Ghost Eaters, What Kind of Mother, and Wake Up and Open Your Eyes, as well as numerous Venom and Creepshow comics and the script for Henry Selick’s Wendell and Wild. The novel’s synopsis is as follows:
Jordan suffers a traumatic accident on the job. It takes him a year to recover after dying for two minutes, and he’s just starting to feel like himself again. Well, there’s a black void in his heart he can’t seem to fill, but other than that, he’s ready to get back out into the world. His friends think he should meet someone, but he doesn’t think he’s ready. Until he encounters Lilith. The two share an instant connection and Jordan can’t wait to see her again. Except the next time he runs into her, she’s in a different body.
Lilith is drawn to Jordan in a way she’s never felt before, the darkness of her existence attracted to the glittering black hole she sees in Jordan. She finds herself wanting more from him than just a one-night stand. How far will the two of them go—how much of themselves can they give to each other—to find love?
Our exclusive excerpt features Jordan’s first meeting with Lilith, in a crowded bar where she seems to be the only person he can hear. They have an instant connection, one that almost concerns Jordan — why would a woman like her be interested in him? But she’s persistent, and it’s not long before he’s falling hard and fast for her.
Devil Inside hits shelves on August 11, 2026. Check out the cover and our exclusive excerpt down below:
