One Battle After Another breakout Chase Infiniti will officially star in Portrait of God, the upcoming horror feature based on Dylan Clark's viral short of the same name,
Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, Portrait of God has also made the transfer over from previous home Universal to Lionsgate, who will also release Clark's upcoming reboot of The Blair Witch Project.
Clark directs from a script co-written with Joe Russo (The Inheritance), with two horror masters teaming up behind the scenes, as Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope) produces for Monkeypaw Productions, and Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Send Help) for Ghost House.
While the plot of the Portrait of God feature is being kept under wraps, the short centers on a religious young woman who discovers the disquieting answer to the question, “What does God look like?”:
Opening with a quote from the Old Testament — “No man shall see Me and live” — it finds Mia sitting in the dark, practicing a slide presentation about a work of art dubbed “Portrait of God.” To some who view the painting, she says, it appears completely black.
But others report seeing a person in the darkness — one who’s been described time and again, in consistent detail. Minimalistic yet menacing, the short offers a counterpoint to the idea of God as a benevolent entity. Viewers of the portrait, beware.
Since being uploaded in 2022, Clark's Portrait of God has racked up over 8 million views on YouTube, spawning numerous analysis videos from freaked out viewers.
Portrait of God will join the swiftly growing slate of YouTuber-crafted horror movies, which currently includes Curry Barker's Obsession, Kane Parsons' Backrooms, Chris Stuckmann's Shelby Oaks, Mark Fischbach's Iron Lung, and the Phillipou Brothers' Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, to name but a few.
