Fresh off one Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck (releasing via NEON in 2025), Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, the upcoming untitled The Exorcist movie) is set to direct an 8-episode adaptation of another King tale for the small screen with Carrie, a new Amazon series.

Reporting the news exclusively earlier today, Deadline reported that Flanagan and Trevor Macy will executive produce the project, which will be a new take on King's 1974 debut novel which follows the bloodsoaked tale of a young girl, her overbearing religious mother, and her newfound telekinetic powers.

First adapted into cinematic form by Brian De Palma in 1976, Carrie is considered one of the best King adaptations of all time, with Sissy Spacek's iconic performance as the titular teen receiving a rare horror-focused Academy Award nomination.

No stranger to adapting the stories of King with Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, based on King's works from 1992 and 2013 respectively, Flanagan seems like a no-brainer for an adaptation of Carrie. There's also Flanagan's take on The Dark Tower series still to come.

While that's all the news we have on Carrie for now, Deadline do note that a writer's room for the series has already been opened up, suggesting this one is already further along than we might expect. Updates as we get them!
