If the vet bills weren’t enough to dissuade you from getting a poodle, maybe IFC Films’ newest release will scare you off. They just released the first trailer for Breeder, an unsettling new film that hits theaters this fall, where a simple research project turns out to be way more than anyone ever bargained for.
Written and directed by Alex Goyette, Breeder stars Dot-Marie Jones, Daniel Doheny, Maddie Phillips, Tanaya Beatty, and Paige McGarvin. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
An eccentric poodle breeder lures a broke college student to her remote ranch with a promise of research funding. But, as he soon learns, there’s a catch.
Goyette is probably best known for his sketch comedy work on YouTube, where he rose to fame working with the channel AwesomenessTV. He also made a whopping sixteen short films, in addition to his feature debut Expelled, which premiered in 2014. Breeders is his first full-length horror film, and is the first time Jones has had a starring role in one, though she’s worked extensively with Ryan Murphy on shows like American Horror Story and The Shards.
Breeder is produced by Byron Austen Ashley, K. Asher Levin, Brian Mitchell, Ian Start, and Chris Wilkinson. It joins a long line of horror films released by IFC, and the latest from just this year, which also saw the premieres of Whistle, Faces of Death, Forbidden Fruits, Dolly, and Saccharine.
Breeder hits theaters on October 16.
