Cleaning the bathroom is already one of the least inviting chores to do around the house โ€” but itโ€™d definitely be worse if your toilet was haunted. Presumably thatโ€™s the idea behind the brand new Brazilian horror film Bowels of Hell, which just released its first teaser ahead of its festival premiereโ€ฆif you can stomach it.ย

Bowels of Hell is written and directed by Gustavo Vinagre and Gurcius Gewdner, and stars Martha Nowill, Otรกvio Mรผller, Chandelly Braz, Marco Pigossi, Regina Braga, Olivia Torres, Maria Gladys, and Bruce LaBruce. The filmโ€™s synopsis is as follows:ย

Bowels Of Hell follows Malu, who is cracking due to the weight of past trauma and a rebellious child. When a strange curse turns toilets into deadly monsters, she is hurled into a surreal nightmare where motherhood, grief, and existential terror canโ€™t simply be flushed away.

โ€œWe made Bowels of Hell out of a deep affection for horror and with the playful sensibility of childhood,โ€ said Vinagre and Gewdner of the film. โ€œA space where fear becomes tender, and imagination turns darkness into something strangely loving.โ€ย ย

Bowels of Hell is set to have its world premiere later this week at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and has already been picked up for distribution by Blue Finch Films, who are also distributing the upcoming slasher Dolly, as well as Happy Death Day star Jessica Rotheโ€™s newest horror film, Affection. The film is produced by Rodrigo Teixeira, Berta Marchiori, and Tereza Alvarez for the popular Brazilian production house RT Features.ย

โ€œBowels of Hell is both a provocative and bold piece of filmmaking from Gustavo and Gurcius,โ€ said Blue Finchโ€™s Mike Chapman. โ€œCombining jaw dropping genre moments and profound themes, it will stick with viewers for a multitude of reasons.โ€ย

No release date has been announced for Bowels of Hell, but European audiences can get more information on its Rotterdam screening on the festivalโ€™s website. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.ย
