Just a few short weeks after the streamer acquired the German sports horror film, Shudder is giving us our first sneak peek at Bloody Tennis. They’ve just released the film’s first trailer, ahead of its premiere at the end of next month, bringing a whole new definition to the phrase “no pain, no gain.”
Bloody Tennis stars Sandra Guldberg Kampp, Helena Zengel, Tracy Gotoas, Lucie Zhang, Lily Taieb, Elina Löwensohn, and Zlatko Burić. Per Variety, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
After being admitted to an elite tennis academy hidden deep in the South of Europe, Sophie must contend not only with fierce competition but also with the school’s increasingly sinister undercurrents. What begins as a competitive rite of passage soon unravels into something darker, forcing Sophie to choose between chasing greatness and the connections to her friends and lovers.
As the stakes rise, she must decide whether to become the player she’s always dreamed of—or keep her empathy. BLOODY TENNIS blends elite sport sports, trippy hallucinations and grotesque humor into a world filled with brutal ambition, blood-sucking leeches, hard-hitting serves and delicious nightmares.

Featuring a score by Jim Williams, who also worked on Titane and Raw, Bloody Tennis is produced by Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo, in co-production with Port au Prince Film and Kultur Produktion.
“After years of hard work, we’re incredibly excited to finally bring ‘Bloody Tennis’ to audiences with its world premiere in Locarno,” Katzenstein said when Shudder originally acquired the film. “This film would not exist without the extraordinary vision of Nikias, our wonderful cast and the dedication of everyone involved. Knowing that it has already found partners in so many territories—and that it will begin its journey with Shudder in North America—makes this moment even more special. We can’t wait for audiences to finally enter the strange and unsettling world we have created together.”
Bloody Tennis premieres on Shudder on September 25.
