Free Comic Book Day is coming up on May 3, which means all kinds of great new content from different publishers across all genres — horror included. To celebrate the annual event, FANGORIA has teamed up with EC Comics and Oni Press to give you a special sneak preview of one of the stories from their upcoming release, Blood Type issue #0. That’s right, you can read an entire story from the new edition, which features encore presentations from some of this year’s most shocking, fan-favorite EC Comics stories!

“The Champion,” one of three stories in the special release, is written by Matt Kindt, featuring art by Kano. The issue also contains stories from Corinna Bechko and Chris Condon, with art by Charlie Adlard and Jonathan Case, and you can check out the full excerpt below, about an interstellar gladiator contest that takes a harrowing turn for the worst.

Blood Type #0 features cover art by Eisner Award nominee Tyler Crook, plus an exclusive look at EC Comics’ summer lineup. The company is introducing their “Summer of Fear” event with the Free Comic Book Day release, which includes Blood Type #1, featuring a familiar vampire queen from their previous release Epitaphs from the Abyss #3, written by Corinna Bechko with art by Andrea Sorrentino; Cruel Universe 2 #1, a new sci-fi series that takes a doomed expedition to the edge of space and time, featuring art by Kano, David Rubin, and more; and Catacomb of Torment #1, the first in an ongoing horror anthology series that will feature stories from John Arcudi, Marguerite Bennett, David Lapham, and more.
