Billy Crystalโs taking a turn for the strange as he heads for Apple TV+. The Emmy and Tony Award winning actor is moving to the small screen in their latest series, Before, and the high quality streamer has officially dropped the showโs first trailer ahead of its premiere on the platform at the end of October.
In Before, Crystal plays a lauded child psychologist who finds himself tied up in a mystery when he encounters a strange and troubled young boy. As he investigates further, it seems like the boy, whoโs quickly turning more insular and violent, is connected somehow to his past, and he finds himself drawn in and drowning as he gets in over his head, slowly losing his grip on his profession as well as his sanity โ and it definitely doesnโt help that heโs being plagued by visions of his deceased wife, who seems to be over his shoulder offering commentary on his worsening condition.
Itโs a unique turn for Crystal, whoโs primarily known in the public consciousness for his comedy work, and his first appearance in anything since the stage adaptation of his 1992 film Mr. Saturday Night closed on Broadway in 2022. He serves as executive producer on the series alongside showrunner and writer Sarah Thorp, and is joined by a host of other major names, including Rosie Perez, Judith Light, and Maria Dizzia, as well as Jacobi Jupe and Ava Lalezarzadeh.
Before isnโt Apple TV+โs first turn into horror and thriller television, either. While theyโre best known for titles like Ted Lasso and For All Mankind, theyโve produced some impressive horror television in recent years, including Shining Girls, The Changeling, and Liseyโs Story, based on the Stephen King story of the same name. Theyโve also got titles like Murderbot, starring Late Night With the Devilโs David Dastmalchian, coming out, so theyโre certainly not one to miss when it comes to the perfect spooky season watch.
Before premieres with two episodes on October 25, with new episodes premiering weekly after. Check out the trailer below:
