Four years after its 2022 release, Zach Cregger's Barbarian is finally coming to physical media, with 20th Century set to release a 4K UHD SteelBook this August.
Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long, Barbarian follows a woman who rents a house on Airbnb and discovers a dark secret inside. Cregger's solo feature debut, the pic opened to rave reviews from critics and racked up a worldwide box office total of $45.4 million, against a production budget of $4.5 million. And yet, a Blu-ray, 4K, or hell, even a DVD release never materialized.
As Fango's Ryan Scott reminds, Barbarian was released by Disney’s 20th Century Studios in fall 2022 and it became an unexpected hit, taking in $45 million against a mere $4.5 million budget. Sadly, this was at a time when Disney was caring less and less about physical media, with the studio passing off its physical media business to Sony in 2024. For a while it looked like Barbarian would miss out on being part of the physical media renaissance, but thankfully it looks like Disney has had a change of heart.
The new release of Barbarian will include an audio Commentary with Cregger and producer Roy Lee, a ‘Behind Barbarian’ featurette, and deleted scenes, with the SteelBook featuring brand-new art by Creepy Duck Design. Pre-orders open on July 2, so look out for Barbarian at your physical media retailer of choice.
