Apple TV+'s Cape Fear has found one of its directors, with Headhunters, Passengers and The Imitation Game's Morten Tyldum on board to helm the pilot of the ten-episode series.
Reporting the news today, Variety also reveals that CCH Pounder (The X-Files, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) has been cast, joining previously announced stars Javier Bardem, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
Described as โa tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of Americaโs obsession with true crime in the 21st century', Cape Fear based on both John D. MacDonaldโs novel โThe Executionersโ, and Martin Scorsese's 1991 remake of the original 1962 Cape Fear:
โIn Cape Fear, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.โ
Nick Antosca will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
First announced back in 2023, the Cape Fear series earned a green light once Bardem was attached, portraying cinematic psychopath Cady. In J. Lee Thompson's original film, Max Cady was played by Robert Mitchum, while Robert De Niro took on the role for Scorsese's version, in which Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis also starred.
Tyldum will also executive produce the pilot, with Adams and Bardem exec producing the series alongside Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, via Amblin Television along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
Cape Fear doesn't yet have a release date. Look out for more updates as we get them.
