The queen herself has returned. As filming on Season 13 of American Horror Story begins, creator Ryan Murphy just revealed something huge — Academy Award winner Jessica Lange is back on the set of the cult favorite series.
The news was revealed in a series of images Murphy posted to his Instagram, revealing only Lange’s back as she looks out an ornate window. “American Horror Story, Season 13. Day One,” the post reads. “The return of Jessica Lange!” We have no idea who (or what) she might be playing, as the theme for the season has yet to be revealed, but it’s immense news nonetheless — especially considering Lange had previously said she wouldn’t return for another round on the anthology series.

It’s only fitting that the star returns for unlucky number thirteen after being a staple of the series for so long, appearing in five seasons total, including the first four that made the show a television staple. She last appeared on AHS in 2018 for their Season 8 story Apocalypse, though only for two episodes, and also worked with Murphy on both iterations of his Feud series, Bette and Joan and Capote vs. The Swans.
Lange joins a cast that also includes plenty of Murphy regulars, including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, and Ariana Grande. The new season is AHS’s first in two years after Season 12 aired in 2024, adapting Danielle Valentine’s novel Delicate Condition. (In the meantime, Murphy has certainly kept himself busy, working on shows like Grostequerie, The Beauty, Love Story, and the unfortunate legal drama All’s Fair.)
Season 13 of American Horror Story has not set a release date. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
