With AMC being the parent company of Shudder, it’s only appropriate that they host one of the most jam-packed horror movie marathons of the year. The network revealed their lineup for this year’s FearFest event, packing the channel and its sister streamer with plenty of franchises, cult classics, and other spine-tingling treats.
This year’s host is The Crypt Keeper, the sarcastically jolly host of the classic series Tales From the Crypt. Voiced by longtime star John Kassir, the popular horror host got a special new refresh for FearFest courtesy of special effects master Greg Nicotero, who also directed his segments for the event.
“What a great honor and privilege to re-create this iconic character and get a chance to revisit some of his clever quips and puns with John Kassir again reprising his role,” said Nicotero. “Having the chance to re-create Kevin Yagher’s amazing puppet at my studio KNB EFX and get the opportunity to ‘direct him’ in a series of FearFest spots was like going back in time and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
Beginning on October 1 on both AMC and AMC+, FearFest boasts a whopping 650 hours of horror content over the course of the month. Among its many offerings are marathons of franchises like Insidious, Final Destination, Child’s Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and of course, Halloween.
Other themes include marathons of Tales From the Crypt, a selection of Stephen King movies like Christine and Misery, a collection of slashers, creature features like The Fly and Lake Placid, and assorted films like Tremors, From Dusk Til Dawn, Ghost Ship, and The Lost Boys. They’ll also be hosting a “Halloween Hangover” marathon on November 1, featuring horror-adjacent genre titles like Men in Black, The Terminator, and Predator.
