The wheels are reportedly turning on a sequel to Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell has confirmed in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Alvarez, whose entry into the iconic sci-fi horror franchise has already broken records, previously confirmed that he had ideas for a sequel to Alien: Romulus, and Asbell's comments today flesh those ideas out a little more:

Whatโ€™s the next step for Alien?
Weโ€™re working on a sequel idea now. We havenโ€™t quite closed our deal with Fede [Alvarez], but we are going to, and he has an idea that weโ€™re working on. The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, โ€œWow, where do people want to see them go next?โ€

We know thereโ€™s going to be aliens. We know thereโ€™s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.

In case you missed one of horror's biggest blockbusters, Alien: Romulus is set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), and stars Spaeny, Jonsson, Aileen Wu, Isabela Merced and Archie Renaux as young space colonists exploring a Xenomorph-infested derelict Weyland-Yutani station.

Original Alien director Ridley Scott returned to produce on the movie, which he called “f***ing great”, and fans evidently agreed – Alien: Romulus nabbed a sweet $350 million at the global box office, putting it second only to Prometheus in the financial ranking of the series.

In the same interview, Asbell also confirmed that a new Alien vs. Predator was not off the table, which we already know Alvarez is also on board for:

Fine. Will we eventually see another Alien vs. Predator?
Probably.

Not sure how I feel about that.
It wouldnโ€™t be in the way you think. Thatโ€™s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies. If we do this, theyโ€™ll be organically created out of these two franchises that weโ€™ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combineโ€ฆperhaps. But we havenโ€™t gotten to that point. And weโ€™re not just going to bang it out.

All in all, today is a great day to be a fan of either or both of the two sci-fi horror behemoths. We'll bring you further updates on the Alien: Romulus sequel (Alien: Remus, perhaps?) as we get them.
