If youโ€™ve been dying for Bill & Ted star Alex Winter to hop back into the directorโ€™s chair, youโ€™re in luck. The first image from his upcoming black comedy noir film Adulthood has been released, alongside the news that the film has been picked up for release in North America by Republic Pictures.

Written by Michael M.B. Galvin, the film stars Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario as siblings struggling to survive in present-day America, when one day they find a body in their parentsโ€™ basement, having been buried there long before. The discovery leads them down a rabbit hole of mayhem and murder, with only each other for support โ€” the new image shows off the siblings hoisting said dead body, looking just as confused as youโ€™d expect to find something so shocking in dear old Mom and Dadโ€™s basement.

โ€œI couldnโ€™t be more excited to be working with Republic Pictures for the North American sales and release of our film,โ€ said Winter, who also stars in the film alongside Billie Lourd and Anthony Carrigan. โ€œThey have great instincts and are dedicated to quality Indie movies.โ€

Winterโ€™s first full-length directorial effort came with 1993โ€™s Freaked, which he co-directed with Tom Stern, a gross-out black comedy which also co-wrote and starred in about a former child star who finds himself turned into a sideshow freak by a maniacal villain. It would be his last feature film effort until 2013โ€™s Grand Piano, and indeed, one of only five narrative films he directed before Adulthood came into being, having primarily focused on directing documentaries like Zappa and The YouTube Effect

He did, however, recently have a star turn in Shudderโ€™s splatter horror film Destroy All Neighbors, as the titular neighbor in question, alongside Jonah Ray and Randee Heller. Heโ€™s also set to star in Netflixโ€™s upcoming science fiction film Absolute Dominion, about a world destroyed by religious warfare, alongside Patton Oswalt

Adulthood has not yet set a release date. Check out the new image above.
