A24’s THE BACKROOMS Adds Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell And Avian Jogia

They'll join previously announced leads Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve in the viral sci-fi horror.

A24's The Backrooms has claimed a new set of victims, with today bringing the news that Mark Duplass (Creep, The Creep Tapes), Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking) and Avan Jogia (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) have joined the cast of the sci-fi horror film.

Duplass et all join previously announced leads Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Life of Chuck) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World, A Different Man).

Based on the viral series of found-footage videos from filmmaker and VFX artist Kane Parsons (currently A24's youngest ever director at just 20 years old), which are themselves based on a 4chan creepypastaThe Backrooms follows a young filmmakerโ€™s fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The first video in the series, titled โ€œThe Backrooms (Found Footage)โ€ racked up 66million views since its release three years ago.

Parsons will direct from a screenplay by Will Soodik, with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine producing for 21 Laps. Horror master James Wan and Michael Clear are executive producing for Atomic Monster.

No release date has been set yet for The Backrooms, but we'll bring you all the updates as they creep in.
