Mike Flanagan and Amazon's upcoming Carrie series has reportedly found its lead, with Variety revealing that Summer H. Howell (Curse of Chucky, Hunter Hunter) is nearing a deal to lead to lead the 8-episode show.

Variety also report that, while there has been no formal announcement of a series pickup at this time, it's believed to be coming imminently.

Based on Stephen King's 1974 debut novel, Flanagan's Carrie is described as:

โ€œ…a bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Howell), who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her fatherโ€™s sudden and untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with the alien landscape of public High School, a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.โ€

No further details for Carrie have yet been released, aside from that Flanagan will write and executive produce, as well as serving as showrunner and directing. Trevor Macy also serves as an executive producer.

Flanagan is, of course, no stranger to adapting the stories of King with Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, based on King's works from 1992 and 2013 respectively, not to mention his The Dark Tower series still to come, and The Life of Chuck releasing this year.

First adapted into cinematic form by Brian De Palma in 1976, Carrie is considered one of the best King adaptations of all time, with Sissy Spacek's iconic performance as the titular teen receiving a rare horror-focused Academy Award nomination.

Look out for more on Carrie and Howell's potential involvement as we get it.
