Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho (Parasyte: The Grey, Revelations) is heading back into the arena of the undead following his 2016 horror hit Train to Busan with a new zombie feature, Gunche.
Reporting the news today, Deadline also reveal that Jun Ji-hyun (My Love from the Star, Kingdom), Go Soo (Missing), Ji Chang-wook (The Worst of Evil) and Koo Kyo-hwan (D.P., Parasyte: The Grey) will star.
Plot details for Gunche (which means “colony” in Korean, English title still unknown) are still under wraps, but Korean distributor Showbox describe the zombie thriller as โthe culmination of Yeon Sang-hoโs universe, spanning from Train to Busan to Peninsula.โ
Train to Busan, which starred Gong Yoo, Ma Dong-seok and Jung Yu-mi as passengers on a high-speed KTX train infested with zombies, was a hit in both its native Korea and overseas, grossing $98.5 million at the worldwide box office. The film was almost unanimously praised for its mix of tense horror, heartfelt performances and social commentary.
A standalone sequel, Peninsula, followed in 2020.
An American Train to Busan remake titled The Last Train to New York, from director Timo Tjahjanto (May the Devil Take You, Nobody 2) and producer James Wan was reportedly in the works as of 2021, but updates on this project have been scarce.
Look out for more on Gunche as we get it!
