A new season of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs returns this March with a few changes! Season 7 of The Last Drive-In lands on Shudder Friday, March 7th. Fans saw some noticeable changes for season 6, Joe Bob and Darcy moved away from the long-running double-feature model and switched to showing a single feature, every other week. For the first five seasons, the show aired weekly on Shudder every Friday night. Initially, the every-other-week model was a bit confusing for fans, but with the help of a handy dandy calendar, we eventually got there. The season 6 model resulted in shorter episodes but, ultimately, a longer season.
And it looks like there are more changes in store for the upcoming season 7. We're going back to the double features, yay! But this time, The Last Drive-In is moving to a monthly model. That's right, one episode on the first Friday of every month. The season kicks off on March 7th, followed by new episodes each month. The time will remain the same, with live episodes on Shudder at 9pm ET, available on demand Sunday. Here's the official synopsis for The Last Drive-In season 7 premiere:
Lock your doors and crank the volume for a brand-new season of The Last Drive-In. Join Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mailgirl the first Friday of every month for all-new, bone-tingling double-features sure to delight horror buffs and video hounds alike, proving once again that the drive-in will never die.
No details just yet on whether The Last Drive-In specials will air on that designated first Friday or if the traditional holiday specials will air as bonus episodes later in the month. Either way, we certainly won't get more episodes in a season, but I suppose this means there will be no off-season?
Joe Bob and Darcy wrapped season 6 by returning to their Last Drive-In roots with a six-movie marathon over the summer. The marathon was an homage to the Shudder one-off Last Drive-In special back in 2018, when fans crashed the servers. Six seasons in, it all came full circle with a new special: The Last Drive-In: Nightmareathon. Grilled cheese night was a Joe Bob (and fan?) favorite, and I'm excited to see what theme nights The Last Drive-In gang have in store for us in the new season. And of course, we're excited to see Joe Bob's mission to make Walpurgisnacht happen pick up some steam.
