A year after it was revealed that Living Dead Media would be making another installment in Dan OโBannonโs horror comedy series The Return of the Living Dead, we finally have news about the upcoming film. Bloody Disgusting has revealed two stills from the wintery film, the first in the franchise in twenty years, and also reported that big news about the film is set to be revealed on December 13.
The two images donโt reveal much about the film, other than its setting in a wintery wonderland, but Living Dead Media seems confident in the new film, which has yet to receive an official title.
โOur reboot of Return of the Living Dead will expand the existing world created by the original 5 films,โ they told Bloody Disgusting, โWhile staying true to the R-rated, sci-fi, horror, dark comedy roots adored by fans of the cult classic around the world for the last 35 years.โ The film is set to be directed by Steve Wolsh, but no cast has been announced as of yet.
Return of the Living Dead celebrates its fortieth anniversary next year, having hit theaters in 1985, almost twenty years after John Russo co-wrote the iconic Night of the Living Dead, which created the zombie as we know it today. Separate from director George A. Romeroโs own follow-ups to the film, Return of the Living Dead was popular enough to spawn four sequels and create a legacy of its own in not only the zombie genre, but horror as a whole.
No other information on the upcoming Return of the Living Dead film is available at the moment, but an announcement will be made on December 13 on the franchiseโs official website at 12 p.m. ET. Check out the new images below:
