WWE superstar CM Punk is embracing his comic book-loving roots as he joins SYFYโ€™s all-new series Revival, Variety reports. The wrestler (whose real name is Phil Brooks) joins the series from Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, alongside previously announced stars Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen, as well as guest star Steven Ogg.

Revival is based on the Image Comics series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. Per Variety, the official description of the series is as follows:

โ€œOn one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the โ€˜revivedโ€™ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, sheโ€™s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.โ€

Revival joins SYFYโ€™s dwindling list of original programming after the cancellation of Chucky and Reginald the Vampire, with only SurrealEstate, a supernatural drama starring Sarah Levy and Tim Rozon, keeping its slate afloat. Little else is known about the series, including who Punk will be playing.

Best known for his exploits in the ring, CM Punk is no stranger to film, though. He previously starred in The Girl on the Third Floor and Jakobโ€™s Wife, starring FANGORIA favorite Barbara Crampton, as well as featuring in episodes of television shows like Heels and Mayans MC. Revival joins his already full upcoming slate of horror projects, which also includes Night Patrol, starring Jermaine Fowler, Dermot Mulroney, and Justin Long

Koontz and Boyce serve as executive producers and showrunners on Revival, which also features executive producers Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster. Currently filming in Canada, no release window has been announced for the series as of yet.
