I’m a major collector of vinyl records, but even I know not to mess with the creepy ones you find in the corner of a poorly-lit antique mall. Apparently, not everyone is that careful, as is the case in Nervous, a new psychological thriller starring Sarah Bolger that Deadline reports has just been picked up by Voltage Pictures.

Co-written and directed by Abner Pastoll, who Bolger also worked with on A Good Woman Is Hard to Find, Nervous also stars Ko Asung and Sungsoo Yune. Per Deadline, the film’s synopsis is as follows:

Desperate to save their crumbling marriage, Sarah and her husband relocate to the Korean countryside, where they discover a mysterious vinyl record that plays only silence. After listening, she loses the ability to hear men’s voices, plunging her into paranoia and hallucinations. Increasingly isolated and drawn to an enigmatic female neighbor, Sarah struggles to distinguish reality from nightmare. Is she losing her mind, or is something far more sinister at work?

Nervous was short in and around Seoul, as a co-production between South Korea and the UK. The film is produced by Pastoll and Junyoung Jang, with executive producers Guillaume Benski, Youngmin Kim, and Sangjin Lee.

“Nervous began with a simple but very unsettling idea: what happens when you can no longer hear the person closest to you?” said Jang. “We wanted to explore that through sound and silence, creating something intimate, disorientating and cinematic. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Voltage to bring the film to audiences around the world and, for a film about silence, we’re excited to make some noise!”

“Nervous represents the kind of bold, elevated horror that continues to resonate with global audiences,” said Voltage’s Alexandra Cocean. “Abner has crafted a provocative and deeply unsettling film that combines sophisticated psychological storytelling with striking visuals and an inventive use of sound. We are excited to screen the film to our buyers at AFM.”

No release date has been set for Nervous. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
