Audiences just can’t get enough of vampire romances, it seems. Deadline reports that Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to star in Pretty Kill Machine, a new paranormal film about an infamous vampire who finds herself stuck under the thumb of love.
Pretty Kill Machine is written and directed by Matthew Wilder. No casting other than Rhys Meyers has been announced, though given his history with playing genre favorites, it’s a good name to build a film. Per Deadline, its synopsis is as follows:
Set in and around Joshua Tree, California, the film follows Vee, a supernatural being who has walked the earth since before recorded history. A vampire “in the vulgate,” she prefers to think of herself as simply “a day drinker” – drifting between an elegant hotel bar and a mirrored, glass-walled lair in the desert, feeding on blood and, more dangerously, on souls. Her centuries-long existence is thrown into crisis when she falls in love for the first time, a development that threatens to end her eternal reign for good.

According to Deadline, Rhys Meyers is set to play the mysterious man that Vee falls in love with, though no other details on that character are available at this point. The film is produced by David Hillary and Yariv Lerner, and is being sold at this week’s American Film Market.
“We’re happy to be taking on Pretty Kill Machine,” said Lerner. “Matthew has built a genuinely sensuous, dangerous world, and with Jonathan anchoring it at the center, we think buyers are going to respond in a big way. We can’t wait to introduce Vee to the market at AFM.”
This is, of course, not the first time Rhys Meyers has featured in something to do with vampires. In 2013, he played the king of all bloodsuckers in NBC’s series Dracula, which was cancelled after just one season. He’s also set to star in Eyes in the Trees, a new reimagining of The Island of Dr. Moreau starring Anthony Hopkins.
No release date has been set for Pretty Kill Machine. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
